The solution devised by Verkehrsautomatisierung Berlin GmbH is based on VABtrack modules and can be used by tram operators and secondary in-dustrial railways to control complex depots and also smaller signalling installations like crossings, level crossings, tunnels, termini or single point controllers on the network. It is thus the user interface for con-trollers made by HANNING & KAHL GmbH & Co KG.
The integrated installations can be monitored and controlled from local and remote workstations. In addition to cabled integration of the controller into the network, the process data from the route level can also be transmitted to the server per mobile radio.

Main functions

  • Visualisation of infrastructure equipment and different route elements e.g. points, signals, track and blocking circuits, vehicle identification loops in the “Operate and Observe“ module
  • Setting of secured routes
  • Visualisation of secured routes and vehicle information and of the status of route elements on the track diagram
  • Configuration and switching of point heaters
  • Control of signalling installations from single signals to complex depots
  • Setting of electric points and configuration and switching of point heaters
  • Graphic or tabular evaluation of protocolled process data in the “EventViewer“

Operate & Observe

The entire infrastructure with the different route elements like points, signals, track circuits and blocking circuits and vehicle identification loops are visualised in the “Operate & Observe” module. Operations, e.g the setting of secured routes can be performed. Secured route reservation and crossing, vehicle information and current status of the route elements are shown on the track diagram.

Identifying and tracking vehicles, visualising locations

By way of system extension, functions of identification, tracking and vehicle location display can be integrated. These enable the following: 

  • Visualisation of vehicle tracking
  • Manual location change with drag & drop
  • Manual coupling and disconnecting of trains
  • Storing of vehicle locations in a database
  • Vehicle-related setting of secured routes

Display of malfunction reports

The malfunction reports contained in the process data are displayed in a separate fault window

All data telegrams are shown on a time line and time stamped and logged by the server everytime there is an incident or a change in state.

The status of the malfunction report displays is visualised and described in two sub-windows.

All views are synchronised when the program is running. Status can be looked at retrospectively by selecting a data telegram in the time line.

Evaluating and graphically processing process data with the “EventViewer” module

The “EventViewer” module is a diagnostic tool for graphic evaluation of the process data protocolled by the server – to do so it requires the daily data protocols provided by the server.

The process data stored in the protocol files contain all the information transmitted to registered operating stations during runtime. Operating commands and acknowledgements are also protocolled. It is possible to run protocols automatically or to work through each data record individually.
